A hard slap in the face is sometimes useful ;)
I love it when my good friend clarity comes along, slaps me hard in my face and reminds me how to play this game called life. This week several things happened that led me to a clearer understanding of how to achieve this mission I set out to accomplish. Isn’t it amazing how a moment in time can change your trajectory in a flash?
This week I was privileged to spend the best part of a day in the company of the world’s leading peak performance coach – Anthony Robbins – albeit alongside 10,000 other people it was a treasured mind-expanding experience for me. This was at the National Achievers Congress at the Excel Centre in London. This man is incredible. Charismatic presence, an absolute expert in his field – full of practical, up-to-date and simple- to-implement advice to set you on the path to real success in life and business matters. Which, might I add, he shared generously, no-holds-barred with his eager audience. This is a man who has achieved more success in his life than most of us could fathom. He now spends his time teaching others how they too can achieve their dreams.
See, life has a funny way of bringing you what you need in order to progress. If you wake up every morning with an open mind and let it lead you, it will point you in the right direction. I was supposed to be away doing a teaching job this weekend which got cancelled at short notice, and then my good friend Sophia Davis (an extremely gifted life coach) pops up and says, “I have a spare ticket for this event do you want to come?” Of course, I accepted in a flash. I am truly grateful to her for bringing me here. Without her, I would never have known it was happening and would have missed out on some PRECIOUS LIFE CHANGING gems of information that strengthened my understanding of where I am headed and what I actually need to do to get there.
Anyone who can convince 10,000 British (culturally conservative) people to jump around crazily like kids shouting “I OWN YOU” at the person next to them, each cheering as if they personally just won the Euromillions gets my vote! I spent most of the time looking around at this sight and laughing my head off at what I was seeing before me. And laughter is great medicine for the soul.
After suffering some difficult experiences this week, and some real doubt moments; five hours in Tony Robbins company quickly dissolved those feelings. If anything, his presentation echoed principals that I have heard from my own mentors and several other sources, reinforcing that in fact I am on the right path. All I needed was an adjustment of my ‘state’ and a fresh perspective. I woke up this morning with an epiphany and new focus.
You can’t keep a strong girl down. Any of my doubts (caused by my perception of external forces) are always in the end over-ridden by my internal belief system. It’s the thing that has always driven me forward, even when others may look at me and treat me as if I am mad!
I know it’s been a while since I blogged, but I only really like to blog when I have something to say that I believe is useful and could help others to get some focus, clarity or a boot up the ass. So here goes. Below I am sharing a few of the insights I received. May one or more of them kick start something inside of you and help you to move forward in some way in your life.
INSIGHT 1: A leader is somebody who lives life on their terms.
The leadership component doesn’t always mean somebody follows you. A leader is somebody who lives life on their terms. That you will never settle for less than you can be or share or give or create. It’s not what we get that makes us happy, it’s who we become. How we live our life, who we are as a person. People can take away all of our ‘things’ but who you become no one can take away. And the problem is, most of us are trying to be something we are not. It isn’t so much about changing yourself. The change happens when you be yourself. Know thyself (that’s the hard part for most of us) and then be thyself.
Three Mandates
1. See it as it is but not worse than it is. Have the guts to be honest. The truth will set you free. The bullshit will not. 2. See it better than it is. 3. Make it the way you see it.
If you want more on this, watch this video: Anthony Robbins – Who Do You Think You Are?
INSIGHT 2: The same level of thinking will not get you where you want to go.
To get a new result you have to make new actions. The biggest challenge in life is our conditioning – we tend to live in the past. The chokehold on your business is the psychology of your leader. It has been proven that 80% of what you achieve is a result of psychology and 20% is attributed to skill-set.
INSIGHT 3: The ultimate gift in life is emotional fitness.
We are responsible for our lives. Have you ever failed to achieve your goal? Most reasons given for failure are actually resources (or perceived lack of). It’s never a lack of resources. It’s a lack of resourcefulness. The biggest resource we have is human emotions. Creativity. Commitment. Determination. Certainty. Flexibility. Connection. Compassion. Vision.
INSIGHT 4: The story you believe, you live.
1. Strategy. Ignorance will cost you months, years & decades. The right strategy can change things in a heartbeat.
2. Change your story. People will say ‘I’ve tried everything. Their story keeps them from achieving. The right story can change everything. Get it in your mind and heart.
3. Change your state. Your state (mental/emotional) is everything. From now on measure your state. If you don’t measure it you can’t manage it.
INSIGHT 5: Our life is controlled by one force. DECISION.
DECISION is the only power we have been given. Making a CHOICE is the thing we need to do to make a CHANGE. The first decision should be about ourselves. ACTION is the key to realising that change.
Three Decisions
1) What should I focus on?
2) What does that mean?
3) What should I do?
Two forces control our decisions:
1) The state we are in (this is referring to emotional fitness moment to moment)
2) Our blueprint. We have a set of beliefs, values and rules. Shift your blueprints by changing your story.
INSIGHT 6: Emotion is created by motion.
The way you use your body will affect how you feel. Physiology comes first. Once you get in to a state it will give you momentum e.g. the rich get richer, the poor get poorer, the happy gets happier, the depressed gets more depressed.
INSIGHT 7: Kids are not afraid of failing. Be more childlike.
We have been culturally conditioned to shrink down and lower our standards. We have been taught to fit in. We fear failure. If we are proud of something we are seen as egotistical. If we are overly happy for no ‘good’ reason we are classed as crazy!
If there is something in your life that you can be proud of, what is it? It is not egotistical to be proud. If you did it then it’s true. That’s not ego. You don’t need an excuse to feel good. Train your body to celebrate more and to appreciate life more.
In closing …

Hi Corina,
A great post.
I love Tony Robbins.
Being a coach and trainer professionally, I can’t stress enough how mind over matter is key…
We always say that it always comes down to skill vs choice: people can give you the skill… But you have to choose to use it!
I’m looking forward to your learnings from Mr Trump 🙂
Hey Corina! Glad to hear you took your friend up on her offer. 🙂 So many of the insights you listed here are spot-on. If you’re interested in having more breakthroughs, you should look into going to Unleash the Power Within—Tony will be back in May for that seminar.
